It's not junk really but we thought a virtual rummage through our ever growing collection of spares and parts that we hoard might find you that bit you need to complete a restoration.

Components such as high voltage capacitors suitable for valve radio restoration,  panel bulbs, replacement speakers, valves and transistors plus other useful and sometimes hard to find items.

Also here you will find our radio breakers yard.  Its impossible to save every radio that we obtain.  As such we have a growing collection of skeletons suitable for parts.  We will run this just like a car breakers yard (although no spanners and overalls required!)  There might just be that elusive IFT, tuning dial,  speaker, transformer or dropper resistor  - the list is endless.    Even the nuts and bolts are useful to the perfectionist!

If there is anything you want to buy from this page,  send an email to the usual place and we'll work out the postage for you.  For most new component orders the postage and packing  is just £1.50.  Happy hunting….

Dial Bulbs
Available in most voltage ratings to suit the majority of vintage radios.  This is something that always comes in handy.   Other types available,  do email for a quote for types not listed here.

All are MES screw types.  We also have some bayonet types which turn up in Grundig and continental Philips radios.

Capacitors
For most purposes such as grid coupling / de-coupling we use high voltage "yellow" polyester types.  They are almost indestructible,  resistant to high temperatures,  close tolerance and are small enough to fit inside the original wax tubes should you wish to disguise them.  Most  are rated at 400 or 630V DC,  which is more than enough for your radio.  For mains filter capacitors (usually a 0.1 uF across the mains input on AC/DC receivers) you should use a minimum of a 1000V rated capacitor.  For this purpose we use Polypropylene types.  Some electrolytics in your radio need not be high voltage working.  Capacitors such as output valve cathode bypass (generally a 50 uF) need only be rated at 30V or so.  We supply 63 or 100V rated components for this purpose.  Mains filter / smoothing capacitors are getting hard to find these days.  The large can types are almost impossible to obtain for a reasonable price,  as such we are offering the standard high voltage axial lead types.  They are suitable for either under chassis mounting,  or if you are feeling adventurous  you could open up the old can capacitor and repack it with a couple of our electrolytics.

Note,  most old wax paper components had a wide tolerance range.  For a 0.05 uF use a 0.047 uF etc .  Really it does not make any difference in practice !

Lead lengths for all capacitors is 40 mm minimum.  Other values / types available,  please email for a quote.

P&P for UK capacitor orders is £1.50

They come in various shapes and sizes.  Our capacitors have one thing in common,  long connecting leads!

Authentic Replacement Roberts Radio Handles

Broken and damaged handles on the classic Roberts transistor portables is a common problem,  one which until now has been very difficult to overcome.  Manufactured to original specifications using  the same tools and materials Roberts used all those years ago we highly recommended these reproductions to all Roberts Radio enthusiasts.  The ivory white beading is a perfect match to the original item. The handles are not available directly from us,  but you can buy them from the manufacturers,  East Coast Wireless here in the UK.

The handles are available in tan, green, red, dark blue and black, with ivory beading.   All colours are matched to the original shades used.

They are suitable for Roberts RT1, R200, R300, R500, R303, RIC1, R404 etc.  Also available now are replacements for the Roberts R707.

All straps are supplied in one length,  all you need to do is to cut it to the required size,  and then swap the brass work over from your set.  Simple !

You can order the handles from Graham at East Coast Wireless,  either by email to coastwire@aol.com , by telephone on (01945) 780808  (omit the 0 if outside the UK),  or by post to :-  East Coast Wireless,  2 Holt Court, Walpole St Peter, Wisbech, PE14 7NY ,  UK.

As a special offer,  mention Past Times Radio when you place your order and you will get your handle for the bargain price of £10 each including delivery to  a UK address.  Overseas orders,  airmail postage will be added to the amount at cost.

Loudspeakers
We have a selection of second hand original vintage loudspeakers,  circular, elliptical, field coil, and all sorts of other things from the 1930's through to the 70's.  Each item will be tested before despatch.  If you get in touch with details of sizes etc, model type (in case we have an exact replacement), we will do our best to sort something out for you.  Most field coil speakers are £12 plus postage.  Large permanent magnet speakers are £8, smaller types are £5.

We also have access to a wide variety of 4 ohm new speakers,  which are suitable for use in radio sets that originally had a 3 ohm device.  In practice we have found that the slight change in impedance has had very little  (if any) effect on the output performance.   Email or telephone for more information.

If you have a Bush DAC90A and the original speaker is rattling and sounds more like an electric sander than a speaker make sure you have a look at our top tips on the "Restoration Hints and Tips" page.  It probably only needs a dab of glue and 5 minutes to make it as good as new.

Glass Tuning Dials.
Most of these dials were removed from dead radios.  If they are listed here then expect them to be in good condition (unless it's something really rare  -  we'll tell you about that as and when).  For the majority of dials we have only one available  so it's first come first served.  The table will be updated regularly as new items become available.  Postage for UK customers is generally around  £3 -   £4  for a dial  -  they have to be packed well !

Radio chassis spares
All items will be removed as required and tested where appropriate, before dispatch.  Often you will find that parts are interchangeable between different radios,  especially where the set was produced by the same company,  or the valve line up is similar.

Use the following as an approximate guide to pricing.  Postage will be calculated at cost.

Mains transformers from £6.00
Output transformers from £7.00
Dropper resistors £3.00
Tuning Capacitors from £4.50
IFT's and other wound components from £3.00
Mains Chokes from £10.00
Misc chassis hardware, tuning drive components, back panels, trim components etc POA
Ferrite rods, aerial components for transistor radios etc,  from £2.00
Knobs,   from £1 each.  Please send a picture if you can.

Get in touch by email and hopefully we will be able to supply the bit you need.

Valves  / Tuning Indicators
We are currently setting up an online "valve shop" and hope to bring this to you soon.  In the meantime you will be pleased to know that we have a good selection of  tested radio valves available.   Please email with your requirements.
